HARBOR BLUFFS NEIGHBORHOOD TRANSFORMATION
The recent announcement of a $15.9 million federal Hope VI grant to the Benton Harbor Housing Commission represented the culmination of an intensive master planning and community building effort. Alliance Architects’ predecessor firm served as the agency’s lead consultant in the areas of site planning and architectural design. The grant will enable Benton Harbor to demolish an outdated public housing “project” and develop a new mixed-use neighborhood. The application of New Urbanist planning principles will help to ensure the success of the plan, which Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm described as “...a shining ray of hope for the revitalization of Benton Harbor.”
